In Kathmandu you can find more than 100 travel agencies, so which to choose?
I checked homepages of different companies and at the end I found a note in the lonely planet travel forum about one guide, who was warmly recommended:
Dil Sapkota from" Glacier Adventure Trek"
He replied my e-mails promptly and once we were in KTM we learned, that he is one of the managers of this agency. His English is excellent, which makes communication easy. His knowledge about cultural, social and political life of Nepal is outstanding, which gives you the opportunity to learn a lot about the country. He also knows quite well about western culture and lifestyle, since he has been abroad some times.
Organization was perfectly done within two days including all permits and flights, that were needed. Dil knows the Upper Mustang area very well and so he worked out a perfect itinerary according weather conditions and our personal wishes. It turned out to be a great advantage, that Dil was very familiar with all the situations there. He knew the best lodges and sent the porter ahead to get the best possible rooms. Guiding groups all over the Nepali Himalaya area, he will know the other trekking routes as well, even more remote ones . This is, what we found out, a big advantage, which you will not find so often. To sell a tour at an agency is one thing and it might happen, that this person has never been out at the mountains. To send a guide with poor knowledge in English or only little knowledge of the area you are trekking to might also cause troubles.
We had a great time together and really enjoyed the trek.
We highly recommend Dil as a wonderful guide, you cannot do a better choice!"

Darren OrnitzI have done many treks around the world and I have for sure had the best experience working with Dil. He was a real pleasure to work with. Coming into another country, you want the transition to be as easy as possible and Dil certainly helps to ensure that everything trek related is completelyed as smoothly as possible. Given that he is a local Nepali who runs a small operation with two other partners, his success is dependent on loyalty and customer satisfaction. He will do everything to ensure your trip goes well, as he did for me. For example, we had to meet two times in Kathmandu before the trek and he arrived on time to the minute both times. Given how bad the traffic is this is hard to do. In terms of the actual trek, he was in touch with the guide every day and any questions etc we had were relayed to him and responded to that day. He is very good at changing plans as needed/flights/transportation. Most importantly, he is an HONEST, straightforward, kind, and trustworthy guy. Highly recommended Dil Sapkota & his Company Adventure Glacier Treks & Expedition.

Dymph DressenMy recommendation to add to your site: I went on the Annapurna circuit with Prakash and had a great time. A beautiful walk with a professional guide which helps a lot to make this strenuous hike, as does the splendid nature around you. A few years later he organized our 3 day trek around the Kathmandu-valley with my husband and 4-year old daughter. We carried our daughter while a porter carried our backpack. Prakash is the best adviser on what hikes to choose as he knows them all from his own experience. He's very friendly and professional in a relaxed way, without putting pressure on you. KetanI am here to list my experience with Adventure Glaciers Treks and Expedition, who arranged my trek to Everest Base Camp in February 2008. It is almost a year since I took the trip but wanted to take the time to refer them to all the travelers out there who may be seeking a Tour/Travel Guide. Adventure Glaciers Treks and Expedition is really good at assisting budget travelers for all adventure travel needs in Nepal and surrounding countries. |
